Stage Left: History of Theatre in SF. (Documentary) (Dir. Austin Forbord in attendance)

Stage Left is a documentary film in celebration of a unique theater community. The film begins with the founding of The San Francisco Actor’s Workshop in 1952 and extends through 2010. Inspired by a Western history of risk taking and exploration, a climate of political and social activism, a particular multicultural mix, and a geography that is seismically unstable, San Francisco Theater artists have focused on pushing the boundaries of the form.

Mind Flesh (81min) Horror, Sci-Fi

MindFlesh is a horror/thriller about obsession. Chris Jackson is a taxi driver with a childhood trauma. The trauma has made him a portal for obsessions to pass from the mind to the physical world and hence disrupt the world’s multiple planes of reality. Extraterrestrials that police the universe threaten to kill Chris’ friends unless he conquers his past.

Forty-five minutes later, after trashing the receptionist!s desk and holding off the Cambridge police, Joe Davis walked out of Director Otto Piene’s office with a academic appointment at MIT.

Tom Flynn, the idealist owner of a left-leaning radical café/bookstore and the quixotic publisher of a hard hitting 911 conspiracy expose, finds himself entangled with a mysterious Eastern European beauty, Kasia, who is on the run from strong hand of a global 911 cover up. In this contemporary take on film noir. When Tom is implicated in the murder of his friend and employee, he is forced to unravel Kasia’s complex web of lies. As it turns out, Kasia possesses the smoking gun that proves the identities and methods of the real architects of 911, and Tom Flynn is willing to die to expose the truth.

Schooling the World. White Man’s last Burdon. 68min) Documentary Dir. Carol Black

The film, by Emmy and Writers Guild award winning film and television writer/director Carol Black (“The Wonder Years”) poses an almost heretical challenge to the long-unquestioned assumption that the western model of education and schooling improves lives wherever it goes. The movie has generated powerful, often emotional, response from its October debut at the Vancouver International Film Festival to its recent showing in Washington, D.C. at the National Geographic All Roads Film Festival.

Dili (25min) (Documentary)

Dir. Rintu Thomas

DILLI is a moving collection of heartfelt interviews with Delhi slum dwellers. Its lens focuses on a group of dwellers, bringing to life the untold story of mass exodus of thousands who were bulldozed from their homes and transferred to a makeshift facade – Bawana without water, shelter or drainage, while the city was being beautified for Commonwealth Games 2010.
